Electricity and Alternative Energy Division (EAED)

The Division facilitates thriving, competitive, reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible electricity and alternative energy sectors for the benefit of British Columbians. EAED is made up of four branches with broad responsibilities:

  • Alternative Energy, responsible for advancing energy efficiency policies and programs, facilitating evaluation, development and deployment of leading edge clean energy technologies, and advancing community-based energy policy and programs for the benefit of all British Columbians.
  • Bioenergy and Renewables, responsible for developing and implementing strategic policies related to bioenergy, renewable fuels, wind, solar, ocean renewable and geothermal energy in British Columbia.
  • Electricity Policy, responsible for the development and maintenance of electricity related policies, legislation, regulations and programs
  • Independent Power Producer Policy and Operations, responsible for leading the development and maintenance of provincial Crown land tenuring operational policies and procedures for independent power producer (IPP) projects. 

EAED is also responsible for administering the:

  • Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund: The fund supports the development of clean power and energy efficiency technologies in the electricity, alternative energy, transportation, and oil and gas sectors.
