| Details: This map, in BC Albers
Projection, has all the datasets and expanded geology layers. The Legend Window
to the left of the map is
organized into Layer Groups. Look for the expanded geology, mineral occurrence, ARIS and mineral
title layers at the bottom of the legend window. Administrative layers are at the top.
Topographic layers, including TRIM, are in the middle of the legend window. Two sets
of Level 1 Mineral Resource Assessment layers are available, a shaded version above the geology layers and a
solid version below the geology layers. Level 2 MRA
for metallic mineral potential is also available. Map codes
were recently rationalized and new updated sedimentary, volcanic,
metamorphic, intrusive and ultramafic geology layers were added.
Lithologies are displayed and reported by age and rock type. Geology
is compiled at a 1:250K scale. Compilation scales may be shown with
the legend label; scales in brackets, e.g. (<1:1.2M) or (<300K), are the
scales, shown in the lower right part of the map, at which the layer is
visible. This map is also available as
UTM Projected Maps. View

March 19, 2005, Added one-at-a-time Raster display to the BCGS
Geology, Exploration Assistant and Mineral Titles maps. This
automatically makes all non-selected raster layers not visible when
turning on the visibility of a desired raster layer.
Added auto-minimizing layer groups
to the BCGS Geology, Exploration Assistant and Mineral Titles maps.
This automatically closes open groups that are not visible, leaving
visible groups expanded. |

January
20, 2005, published new
Digital Bedrock
Geology layers, with new legends, to the Main Maps. The BCGS
Geoscience Map features. a new push-button Geology Legend. The layers that have been added are:
 |
Quaternary Geology |
 | Faults and Contacts |
 | Geology polygons coloured by age and rock class
(sedimentary, intrusive etc.) |
 | Geology polygons hatched by rock type (this
hatch pattern is transparent and can be superimposed on raster
images) |
 | Geology labels based on the lithostratigraphic
map unit. |
 | Volcanic, Metamorphic and
Sedimentary Rocks by age layers |
 | Basins |
 | Terranes |
 | Geology Legend reports to screen and Excel. Click
the Geology button, at the top of the map, to create a geology
legend of the screen view. The legend displays only what is on
screen and includes bounding box coordinates and NTS sheet. The
'Bedrock geology - by age and rock class (solid)' layer must be
turned on and zoomed in to at least 1:1,500,000 to view the Geology
Legend. Note: When
printing the Geology Legend to a colour device (PDF or printer) from
Internet Explorer, check on Print background color images in Tools,
Internet Options, Advanced, Printing. |
The cursor flyout also has information on the map
unit represented by each polygon plus it gives the poly-id and
previous keycode so that geologic errors or revisions can be brought
to our attention for specific polygons. We are looking for
feedback on these new layers and would welcome suggestions for
improvements etc. |
