Graham Nixon, P. Geo.
Specialist in igneous rocks & related mineral deposits

Area of Expertise:

Igneous petrology, volcanology, geochemistry, mineralogy, igneous-hosted precious and base-metal mineralization, regional and targeted geological mapping. Joined BC Survey in 1987.

Current Focus:

Platinum-group-element (PGE) mineralization in British Columbia; currently working on PGEs in alkaline intrusive complexes and Cu-Au porphyry deposits (Whiterocks Mountain, Afton, Sappho, Averill, Allendale); future work includes the development of geochemical and mineralogical criteria for prospecting for PGE in a variety of geological environments pertinent to the Cordillera

Past Projects:

Platinum-group-element (PGE) mineralization in Alaskan-type ultramafic-mafic complexes and associated placers; regional mapping of Triassic-Jurassic volcanic stratigraphy and plutonic rocks associated with Cu porphyry deposits, Cu-Au skarns and epithermal acid-sulphate mineralization on Northern Vancouver Island; the evaluation of PGE as a by-product in alkaline Cu-Au porphyry-style systems.

Associated Experience:

Relational database design and implementation, GIS
