Viewing Data

There are a number of sites in which a client or anyone in public freely has access to view data. This section will go briefly into detail what each site is and what you can do on that particular site. Most of these data/map viewing sites are administered through an IMF.

Mineral Titles Online (MTO)

Website: http://www.mtonline.gov.bc.ca/

This is the Mineral Title’s own IMF. MTO allows you to acquire and maintain your mineral or placer claims. It also allows you to pay your associated fees electronically online

Integrated Land and Resource Registry (ILRR)

Website: http://ilrr.ca

The Integrated Land and Resource Registry (ILRR) is a website with a single legal register of all rights and interests on Crown land and information on private lands. Using the ILRR allows clients to have access to comprehensive, and accurate legal rights for land and resources in a matter of minutes, instead of waiting for days or weeks at a time.

How can I perform a land status for my mineral / placer claims?

MapPlace

Website: http://www.em.gov.bc.ca/Mining/Geolsurv/MapPlace/default.htm

MapPlace allows users to access maps and databases of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (Geological Survey). It contains many preset thematic maps so a user can easier access their required needs. Some of these themes include: mineral activity, geophysical, detailed geology, and surficial geology & hazards etc.

There is a special section in MapPlace which might be of interest to you found under the Mineral Titles Map section:

http://webmap.em.gov.bc.ca/mapplace/minpot/min_titl.cfm

It contains geographic information, mineral, placer and coal tenures. It also has Crown Grant raster features which are downloadable.

MapPlace also offers a Geospatial Data Downloads page with available links to various websites, shapefiles and e00 of relevant interest that are available for download:

iMapBC is a government operated online mapping application site which allows users to create and generate online maps of anywhere in British Columbia based on various themes and layers such as: major roads, transportation networks, landmarks, and water bodies etc.

Users have the ability to add additional layers to iMapBC. Some of the more useful layers that you may find in the Add Layers window box include: Administrative Boundaries, Imagery, Licenses and Permits, and Mining and Petroleum.

Many provincial IMF applications such as iMapBC allow users to actually upload their own shapefiles (such as from the LRDW) to be viewed online.

If you are unsure of how to use iMapBC, please refer to the Internet Mapping Help and Tutorial System section above or visit the site at:

Web Map Connection Services

What are Web Map Services?
A Web Map Service (WMS) produces maps of spatially referenced data. This allows you to visualize data from the WMS, along with your own geo-referenced data, within your own Geographic Information System (GIS) or map viewer.

It contains data from many sources and makes it easily accessible through a user friendly mapping interface. There are also selected thematic maps available and province wide coverage for all watercourses, fish distribution, and coastal resources etc.

For example if you would like to status your mineral/placer claim for fish distributions, CMN would be a good place to go.

If you are unsure on how to use the Map in CMN. You can visit the help page at:
http://www.shim.bc.ca/help/help.html

Note: In order to access the maps in the Community Mapping Network, you must first install the Autodesk MapGuide 6 Viewer. The link for the download can be found on the http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5303526
