Reclamation and Prospecting (RAP)
Program

This unique program provides
youth from rural First Nations with training and employment
experience opportunities in the mineral exploration and mining
sector. In addition to receiving instruction in mineral prospecting,
participants learn how to evaluate historic
exploration and mine sites.
Training includes two to three weeks of
field education in bush safety, prospecting, and evaluation of
selected historic sites. After they have completed initial training,
participants move on to two months of employment in the field, where
they are able to utilize and refine their skills in a supervised
environment.
RAP is a
Northwest Community College and
Smithers Exploration Group program that is supported by
the Ministry of Advanced Education, the
Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, the Ministry of
Agriculture and Lands (as part of their
Contaminated Sites initiative) and Human Resources
and Social Development Canada.
