Mining Rocks Success Stories

Dawson Creek
April 24
bullet A man who mined for Teck Cominco for a few years was hired on the spot by Ledcor.
 
Tumbler Ridge
April 25
bullet Three people, all of whom travelled to Tumbler Ridge just for the Mining Rocks career fair, were hired on the spot to work for Ledcor and Western Canadian Coal.
 
McLeod Lake

The final stop on the 2006 Mining Rocks Tour fell on the same date as a Coal Forum, so the two events were amalgamated.

One person was hired that day by Western Canadian Coal to work at the company's Perry Creek operations.

bullet On May 30, Forum organizers faxed the resumes of ten attendees to Falls Mountain Coal Inc.  The following day, the company scheduled interviews with all ten applicants; others found out about the interviews and sent Forum organizers their resumes, which were forwarded to Falls Mountain Coal. As of June 20, three interviewees were hired to work at the Falls Mountain Coal mine at Willow Creek.

 

Survey Results

At each Tour 2006 stop, Mining Rocks attendees were asked to fill out a short survey. Survey respondents generally had very positive things to say about Mining Rocks, and many offered suggestions on how we could improve things next year.

90.5% of survey respondents found Mining Rocks interesting and/or informative.

99% would like to see more events like Mining Rocks in their communities in the future.

bullet

31% felt there should have been more industry participation/
recruitment.

bullet

16.5% thought there should have been more advertising/preliminary information about Mining Rocks.

bullet

12% would have liked to see more displays/information/interactive workshops at the events.

bullet 7% would have appreciated larger venues.
