In
parts of British Columbia where topography is subdued, surface drainage
is poor and there is an abundance of lakes, lake sediment and water surveys
are a valuable exploration tool for delineating regional geochemical
patterns and detecting anomalous metal concentrations related to mineral
occurrences.
Samples are
collected by boat or a float-equiped helicopter using a Hornbrook-type
torpedo sampler. Lake bottom sediments are dried, screened to 80
mesh (0.170mm) and the -80 mesh sediments are analized for elements by
atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), inductively coupled plasma
emission spectroscopy (ICP) and instrumental neutron activation (INA). |
