The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is involved in several initiatives with First Nations in B.C.

The Environmental Resource Information Project (ERIP)

  • is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, the Ministry of Environment, community groups, First Nations, industry and other governments. ERIP contributes to responsible oil and gas development, including coalbed gas, in the province.

The Aboriginal Minerals Training and Employment Program (AMTEP)

  • is a partnership between the Mining Technology Program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), the Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AMEBC), the Mining Association of BC (MABC) and the British Columbia Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR).

Reclamation And Prospecting (RAP) Teams

  • is a unique new program will provide First Nations youth with training and employment experience opportunities in the mineral exploration and mining sector. In addition to receiving instruction in mineral prospecting, participants will learn how to evaluate and clean up abandoned exploration and mine sites.
